There’s nothing like the last week of break to make one finally buckle down and stop procrastinating! Last week I managed to put the finishing touches onto the syllabus for a new class I’m teaching this semester at Clark University on American popular music, as well as the syllabus for a directed study I’m leading there in 20th century theory. I’m also making my way towards the end of a music appreciation course I’ve been teaching online for the University of Phoenix, so I’ve been keeping quite busy on the academic front.

Also, after a brief hiatus (eleven days that felt like several weeks), I reviewed my third concert of 2012 – you can find my thoughts here. Sitting next to me at this performance was Susan Miron, who is a critic for both the Boston Musical Intelligencer and the Arts Fuse, and I had a very pleasant chat with her after the show. This week will (hopefully) bring an additional Boston Symphony review (they’re playing Rite of Spring, which I’ve never heard live before) and the beginnings of a book review on a sobering text dealing with the economic state of American symphony orchestras. Stay tuned!
